After experiencing a long holiday weekend that included a trip to visit my sister and her family, I’m finding myself feeling like it’s a Monday on a Wednesday! Even my computer has been slower to power up this morning.
For the remainder of this week, I’m going to share from some of the writing of Parker J. Palmer’s book “Let Your Life Speak”. Other books written by him include: A Hidden Wholeness; The Courage to Teach; The courage to teach: A guide for Reflection and Renewal; The Active Life; To Know As We Are Known; The Company of Strangers; The Promise of Paradox; and Caring for the Commonweal (co-editor).
In chap. 1, pg.4 of “Let Your Life Speak”, He tells us that “Vocation does not come from willfulness. It comes from listening. . . .Vocation does not mean a goal that I pursue. It means a calling that I hear.”
Wow! It took me a very long time and many different “jobs” to recognize the truth of what he’s stated so simply. Hopefully you and I will pass along this insight to those younger ones around us who may need and are seeking direction for their vocation.
Happy Wednesday, July 5th!
